My background is quilts, but I'm expanding to bags and other items. If you happen to see something you might want to purchase, or have an idea for a custom quilt, feel free to send me an email or visit my etsy shop.Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.comBlogger18125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-65815245287275492322009-08-15T03:10:00.002-04:002009-08-15T03:15:49.574-04:00At long lastI've named this quilt an ode to batiks, because it all started when I fell head over heels for the background batik. I bought the entire bolt, around 18 yards, and immediately knew I was keeping the quilt for myself. Indeed, the back is simply more of the same batik.<br /><br />I actually finished this a few weeks ago, but I've been curled up in it ever since and hadn't snapped a picture.<br /><br />I quilted this in slightly wavy straight lines through the small squares woven through the pattern. It's the first time I've used this technique - props to <a href="http://redpepperquilts.blogspot.com/">Red Pepper Quilts</a> for the inspiration. It feels softer than I expected and I loved it, though it sucked down a huge amount of thread. I lost count of how many bobbins I used, and how many times I went back to my local shop because I ran out of thread again.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SoZfdXk_nYI/AAAAAAAAAEs/vWOM0EBmvI8/s1600-h/finish.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SoZfdXk_nYI/AAAAAAAAAEs/vWOM0EBmvI8/s320/finish.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370084563835919746" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SoZfc_A_kiI/AAAAAAAAAEk/5atlW2RAt40/s1600-h/finish+detail.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SoZfc_A_kiI/AAAAAAAAAEk/5atlW2RAt40/s320/finish+detail.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5370084557242470946" border="0" /></a>Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-929278406539606412009-08-11T17:43:00.003-04:002009-08-11T17:48:24.649-04:00Border attached! It stopped raining! It's only in the last day or two I've been able to find the energy to get up and actually do things.<br /><br />I can't wait until I pull the pins out of my bed quilt so I can post pictures. I'm thrilled with how the quilting came out and I'm almost done putting the binding on. I just need to weave in most of the threads and fix a few tiny spots of quilting and then it's done.<br /><br />Of course, this hasn't stopped me from cutting out a new quilt. I was so inspired by <a href="http://redpepperquilts.blogspot.com/2009/07/finished-quilt-hooray.html">this quilt</a> posted on <a href="http://redpepperquilts.blogspot.com/">Red Pepper Quilts</a> that ideas have been going through my head ever since. I spent the afternoon cutting out squares to Doctor Who commentary and have quite the piles! Tomorrow they turn into half square triangle blocks.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SmAh1vGadWI/AAAAAAAAADs/Vg62sLJnOWs/s1600-h/piles+of+squares.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SmAh1vGadWI/AAAAAAAAADs/Vg62sLJnOWs/s320/piles+of+squares.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359320763631039842" border="0" /></a>Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-84517922436265200502009-06-12T02:52:00.000-04:002009-06-12T02:53:36.672-04:00Sneak peakI'm busy plotting a new project!<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SjH7UdBERaI/AAAAAAAAADk/Q1sG6Otf1og/s1600-h/peak+6-12-09.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SjH7UdBERaI/AAAAAAAAADk/Q1sG6Otf1og/s320/peak+6-12-09.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346330561470547362" border="0" /></a>Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-18537240386567349552009-06-10T15:50:00.003-04:002009-06-10T15:55:41.780-04:00Getting ready for quiltingI finally have a photo of my bed quilt! This is not a quilt that will ever be leaving my hands - it's all mine!Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-50734081910597535752009-06-10T03:16:00.003-04:002009-06-10T03:25:05.802-04:00Actually back, I thinkThat one good day sure was fleeting. Happily, I think I am feeling better, so soon there will be more to talk about.<br /><br />Yesterday I stopped at The City Quilter, my favorite mostly local quilting shop. I have a commissioned wedding quilt I needed to get fabrics for, so I dove into their batiks and emerged victorious, leaving a trail of bolts behind me.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Si9elnP1RTI/AAAAAAAAADU/VdG2QlgE28g/s1600-h/batiks+for+color+wheel+quilt.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Si9elnP1RTI/AAAAAAAAADU/VdG2QlgE28g/s320/batiks+for+color+wheel+quilt.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345595282995627314" border="0" /></a><br />Please excuse my foot. The quilt is going to be a variation on the gorgeous color wheel quilt by Joelle Hoverson in her new <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/purl/our_books">book</a>. Instead of doing the full color wheel, I'm using some of the bride's favorite colors, purple, green, and blue. We're also changing the background to black or dark blue, so I aimed for lighter colors to increase the pop. I may put in one or two darker fabrics to play.Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-33800553361337926332009-05-23T03:31:00.003-04:002009-05-23T03:51:04.193-04:00Back in the saddleI got back to the sewing machine! It's back from the shop, so far playing nicely, and so I whipped up the rest of the blocks for this quilt. It's just two fabrics, but they go so well together. All credit to my sister, who picked the combo.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/ShenY-APyvI/AAAAAAAAADE/eSwt8XTjqRw/s1600-h/block+layout.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/ShenY-APyvI/AAAAAAAAADE/eSwt8XTjqRw/s320/block+layout.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5338919930673744626" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I also got the most adorable pin cushion in the mail today! It's by <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5171677"><strong>ccampbell0509</strong></a> at etsy. Not only is it cute, but it's really one of the better ones I've had. The pins slide in and out with little resistance, which is perfect for using when I'm reaching behind me for a pin.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/ShenYmQ6gKI/AAAAAAAAAC8/Mn6M5nXu6PM/s1600-h/Cupcake+pincushion.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/ShenYmQ6gKI/AAAAAAAAAC8/Mn6M5nXu6PM/s320/Cupcake+pincushion.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5338919924301201570" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Finally, I thought I'd introduce you to the troublemaker who had me so exhausted and fuzzy these past few days. And yes, it's green!<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/ShenZCFRHqI/AAAAAAAAADM/0cAOppthpqQ/s1600-h/May+09+cast.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/ShenZCFRHqI/AAAAAAAAADM/0cAOppthpqQ/s320/May+09+cast.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5338919931768544930" border="0" /></a>Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-52513560174262307482009-05-21T03:34:00.003-04:002009-05-21T03:37:09.151-04:00Where I amSorry for the lack of posts these last few days. My foot flared up in a big way and the meds to manage the pain knock me out. Also, I'm pretty sure a sewing machine counts as heavy machinery. I'm hoping that I can get back into the swing of things soon. I've got an idea for some paper piecing, and I've never done it before, so that should be fun!Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-19456337031611774962009-05-18T02:01:00.003-04:002009-05-18T02:11:21.704-04:00Ever have one of those days...Where you just want to bang your head against the wall?<br /><br />I have all this pretty new stash, and yet no inspiration is striking. I know there are quilts lurking in those fabrics, I just have to convince them to come out and play. That or buy more fabric while I'm at my quilting studio class tomorrow. Clearly that will solve all my problems, ha!<br /><br />There was going to be a picture of tomorrow's project for class, but firefox hates me so a link it will be. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/154/357604657_8d9fc915bf.jpg?v=0Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-57654635922112003412009-05-14T02:48:00.003-04:002009-05-14T02:55:13.869-04:00Another day, another wipThis is a quick top I whipped up after finishing up a massive quilt top for my bed. I needed something to bring to the quilt studio that wouldn't take up a bit of space.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_TCSY-WI/AAAAAAAAAC0/rgp4cpIWSfc/s1600-h/whole+top.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_TCSY-WI/AAAAAAAAAC0/rgp4cpIWSfc/s320/whole+top.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335568517302909282" border="0" /></a><br /><br />You can see the fabrics for the back, binding and border. I stole the red fabric for the back from my mother's stash!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_S-y9EyI/AAAAAAAAACs/6qavNLT7Flg/s1600-h/bbb+detail.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_S-y9EyI/AAAAAAAAACs/6qavNLT7Flg/s320/bbb+detail.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335568516365751074" border="0" /></a><br /><br />The blocks were supposed to be six inches finished. Sadly, I broke my no cutting late at night rule and cut them at 6 inches, leaving me 5 1/2 inches finished. I reworked the rest so they fit, and I'm pleased with how it came out. The varying width of the strip blocks was a happy mistake.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_S-jxtqI/AAAAAAAAACk/xtk1nxT_Whw/s1600-h/top+detail.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_S-jxtqI/AAAAAAAAACk/xtk1nxT_Whw/s320/top+detail.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335568516302091938" border="0" /></a><br /><br />It's all pinned for quilting, but I need to pick up the right color thread. How is it I have dozens and yet not the right one? I think it must be a law.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_SoZKb-I/AAAAAAAAACc/lqCPqxZ4LK8/s1600-h/pinned+detail.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu_SoZKb-I/AAAAAAAAACc/lqCPqxZ4LK8/s320/pinned+detail.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335568510351994850" border="0" /></a>Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-74363700591618783722009-05-14T02:43:00.003-04:002009-05-14T02:48:15.476-04:00Two more finishesI remember unpacking these fabrics when I was still working at my local fabric store. I fell in love and knew I had to make a quilt. A few weeks back I found the strips I'd cut them into and threw together two quick quilts. The first is a windmill variation on a rail quilt.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu92NcYALI/AAAAAAAAACM/UTraymAMEbQ/s1600-h/windmill+finish.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu92NcYALI/AAAAAAAAACM/UTraymAMEbQ/s320/windmill+finish.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335566922569744562" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Next is a more traditional rail fence layout. The borders, backing, and binding are different on each, though all are batiks.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu919nxWlI/AAAAAAAAACE/kIQL_QsFtqc/s1600-h/rail+finish+one.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu919nxWlI/AAAAAAAAACE/kIQL_QsFtqc/s320/rail+finish+one.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335566918322575954" border="0" /></a><br /><br />And finally, a teaser on some pot holders I'm making. I have a no quilting after midnight rule, so these will be quilted tomorrow.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu92Sok_FI/AAAAAAAAACU/tl-0Q0NZmpI/s1600-h/ph+one.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/Sgu92Sok_FI/AAAAAAAAACU/tl-0Q0NZmpI/s320/ph+one.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5335566923963104338" border="0" /></a>Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-19097421096239750862009-05-11T02:38:00.003-04:002009-05-11T02:44:35.834-04:00FinishThe quilt is done!<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgfIPTzLLiI/AAAAAAAAAB8/nn8HplDPMgs/s1600-h/finish+detail+one.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgfIPTzLLiI/AAAAAAAAAB8/nn8HplDPMgs/s320/finish+detail+one.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334452448982150690" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Despite a small argument with my machine, the binding is on.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgfIPJrTSgI/AAAAAAAAAB0/L3Go-irB5vg/s1600-h/finish+detail+two.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgfIPJrTSgI/AAAAAAAAAB0/L3Go-irB5vg/s320/finish+detail+two.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334452446264773122" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I stitched in the ditched on the black blocks, but did a zig zag around the squares in the light blocks.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgfIO-xz2EI/AAAAAAAAABs/5UDTwgLO9m0/s1600-h/quilting+detail+one.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgfIO-xz2EI/AAAAAAAAABs/5UDTwgLO9m0/s320/quilting+detail+one.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334452443339282498" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Tomorrow I will hopefully get the rest of the photos - always a challenge balancing on one leg - and get a few quilts listed on etsy.Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-83286939762201121702009-05-10T02:30:00.004-04:002009-05-10T02:35:06.336-04:00Stash!I was in California last week, for a family affair, but while there I got to indulge in one of my favorite trip activities: checking out local fabric shops. I came away with quite the haul.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZ0vgGR5gI/AAAAAAAAABk/YBtKYHxHcco/s1600-h/stash+two.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZ0vgGR5gI/AAAAAAAAABk/YBtKYHxHcco/s320/stash+two.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334079168085878274" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I spend the afternoon washing, drying and ironing all of them, which amounts to 29 fabrics, most one yard, occasionally two.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZ0vdQLB3I/AAAAAAAAABc/WAL8lOhQzBk/s1600-h/stash+three.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZ0vdQLB3I/AAAAAAAAABc/WAL8lOhQzBk/s320/stash+three.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334079167322064754" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Two of them are already being put to use as backing and binding for the quilt I've been posting about. The rest are going to be such fun to play with.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZ0vJrGSPI/AAAAAAAAABU/zGMucnKI7X0/s1600-h/stash+one.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZ0vJrGSPI/AAAAAAAAABU/zGMucnKI7X0/s320/stash+one.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334079162066290930" border="0" /></a>Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-63288182673787581732009-05-10T02:05:00.006-04:002009-05-10T12:34:00.624-04:00Pin twice...<script type="text/javascript"><br />var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? I have to remember to pull back and look at the entire effect, because spending too much time with my nose to the blocks tends to skew my perspective.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZzATBiftI/AAAAAAAAABM/_3OfmhpH6R0/s1600-h/whole+top.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZzATBiftI/AAAAAAAAABM/_3OfmhpH6R0/s320/whole+top.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334077257610854098" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I pinned the three layers together, then picked it up and realized I had too many wrinkles on the back. This stage always drives me nuts.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZy__L8SXI/AAAAAAAAAA8/zpP5d7GfsE8/s1600-h/pinned+detail+two.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZy__L8SXI/AAAAAAAAAA8/zpP5d7GfsE8/s320/pinned+detail+two.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334077252285778290" border="0" /></a><br /><br />So I pinned the back to the carpet, then the batting, and finally the top before pinning the entire thing together. This time, fewer wrinkles. One day I will learn how not to have wrinkles at all. It was not tonight.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZzACAC7uI/AAAAAAAAABE/-IJAnPoUxIA/s1600-h/pinned+detail.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgZzACAC7uI/AAAAAAAAABE/-IJAnPoUxIA/s320/pinned+detail.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334077253041188578" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I do have a quilting plan, which is to experiment with zigzags. I'm thinking of using cream to match the cream sashing in the black sashed blocks, and black in the cream sashed blocks. That will be tomorrow's project.Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-106194980050363341.post-91724041973707017402009-05-09T02:16:00.007-04:002009-05-10T02:30:15.911-04:00From lemons to lemonadeToday was an unexpected success. I had made some blocks to experiment with the technique of sewing a bunch of strips together and then cutting the whole unit into half square triangles, but I hated how it came out. So I experimented with sashing and came up with this.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgUhNIBI8zI/AAAAAAAAAA0/LsJBWvtOeVQ/s1600-h/block+one+detail.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgUhNIBI8zI/AAAAAAAAAA0/LsJBWvtOeVQ/s320/block+one+detail.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333705843064501042" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Once I put all the pieces together, I had two blocks that looked like this. Suddenly I liked it! When in doubt, add black.<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgUhMnxQ5nI/AAAAAAAAAAs/FUwyRoXW9P4/s1600-h/block+one.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgUhMnxQ5nI/AAAAAAAAAAs/FUwyRoXW9P4/s320/block+one.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333705834407978610" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I needed two more blocks than I had to make a lap quilt, and I didn't feel like making two more of the same type. So I pulled out some of my favorite fabrics from the first blocks and ended up with a simple block.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgUhMZycb8I/AAAAAAAAAAk/JkiV1wv4yLU/s1600-h/block+two.JPG"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FjWarPP22wk/SgUhMZycb8I/AAAAAAAAAAk/JkiV1wv4yLU/s320/block+two.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5333705830654832578" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Tomorrow I plan to put the four blocks together and possibly quilt the thing. If, that is, I can decide whether or not it needs a border. I'm leaning toward no, because the sashing does sort of serve that purpose.Beccahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10700706458286428760noreply@blogger.com0
